The Chow tests show that urban and rural older people were not diffrent in perceived fiancial satisfaction, while male and female people clearly were. Two separate logistic regression models for male and female older people were applied to discover determining factors of their perceived fiancial satisfaction. The fidings generally showed that older women usually had lower probability for fiancial satisfaction than did men. Educational level, living area, and fiancial factors for both males and females played signifiant roles in making older people satisfid with their fiancial situations. The paper also indicates that there was a higher probability of fiancial satisfaction for those who received fiancial support from their children. The results also imply that there was no relationship between the work situation of older people and their perceived fiancial satisfaction, although working in later life could help older people increase their income
- Ấn phẩmThe Aging Population and Sustainability of the Pension Scheme: Simulations of Policy Options for Vietnam(Kinh Tế Quốc Dân, 2017) Long, Thanh Giang; Cuong, Viet NguyenVarious population projections show that Vietnam’s population will age swiftly in the coming decades. As such, the operation of a pay-as-you-go fiancing mechanism would inevitably fid the pension fund unbalanced as well as generate pension liabilities, which in turn would threaten fiancial sustainability and affct inter- and intra-generational inequities. To compare with previous studies, this paper provides calculations for the pension fund balance and close-group pension liabilities for Vietnam under new social insurance regulations. The simulated results show that the pension fund will be fully depleted in about 30 years, and pension liabilities – though small as a percentage of national income – would involve higher taxes for future workers. Based on these fidings, the paper suggests an income security system in which contributory and noncontributory pensions would be supplementary to each other with clear roles in redistribution and consumption smoothing
- Ấn phẩmThe Impact of Domestic Remittances on Left-Behind Older People in Vietnam(Kinh Tế Quốc Dân, 2016) Nguyen, Van Cong; Tran, Thi TrucIn the context of an insuffient social protection system the economic lives of older people, especially those living in rural areas, are greatly changed with socio-economic risks that are associated with the strong rural-urban mobility of younger generations. This paper aims to investigate the impacts on the economic well-being of old-age parents of domestic remittances, sent by their children who have migrated from rural to urban areas. Using data from the Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey (VHLSS) in 2004, 2008 and 2012 with logistic regression models, we found that domestic remittances played an essential role in improving income/ expenditure per capita and reducing poverty rates of older people’s households. Domestic remittances also contributed to reduce Gini coeffients, which were calculated using both income and expenditure per capita.
